San Casciano Historical Residence
This Villa is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in heart of the Chianti region. It dates back to 1408 and used to belong to one of the oldest families of Florence aristocracy. On the garden side of the house there is an elegant portico with Tuscan style columns, while all the doors and windows are decorated with stones of a pure Renaissance grey stone. A terrace overlooks the valley and the pool on a lower level with vineyards and olive trees.
The interior decorating dates from the 1800s with beautiful frescoes in the halls and decorated doors. The entrance areas and the carriage rooms are frescoed in a typical "grotesque" style of Renaissance origin. Rooms are decorated with rich colours and furnished with original antiques and oriental rugs. A lot of attention to detail has been devoted to create comfort and at the same time the special atmosphere of an old home. Bathrooms have mostly showers and there is A/C in every room.
Breakfast is served in a beautiful room on the ground floor or under the loggia in the summertime.

This unique Renaissance home was Pope Giulius II's residence, who commissioned Michelangelo to create the frescos in the Sistine Chapel. The 35 guest rooms in the four main buildings are decorated with antiques that create a royal but friendly atmosphere.
